5 Event Branding Tips For A Stand Out Event

Having a good image not only for your brand but also for your event brand is really important these days to your clients and consumers. If you’re hosting an event it’s not just throwing together a few presentations and hoping for the best. An event is a whole experience, and how that experience is perceived is important to its success and that is where event branding comes in. Whether it’s your pre-event brand with your marketing and registration or if it’s on site on the day. You need to create a seamless experience for your guests in order to get the best results. To do this follow these 5 event branding tips that are simple yet effective.

“Any interaction in any form is branding.” Seth Godin

1.First Event Branding Tip : Create An Event Dedicated Website

When you create an event you are creating something different from your main brand, it should be a whole extra experience. Even if the logo is the same and it’s an event purely for your company it still has a life of it’s own.

Events have a way of taking off and being their own thing. If you do things right, your event may even be the highlight of your guests year. As such it is important to give it it’s own space. I recommend creating a dedicated event website to make it feel more special. Sure you could have it on your main site but you’ll probably have other important information on there that deserves it’s own space.

By creating a dedicated website you give your event more presence. It is usually also then easier to find and get all the information needed. It also can make it a lot easier to integrate with your registration provider if you have one. Plus these days creating a website is really quite easy and will hardly cost you anything.

So give your event and its brand the space it deserves by creating a dedicated event website.

2. Build On Your Own Logo With Fun Color & Font Ideas

Your event logo should be a bit different to your main company logo to help with creating this extra experience. Now its could just be as simple as adding in the name of the event underneath or integrating it in some way to your main logo.

You should play around though, change the colors, adapt and adjust shapes, create something unique based on your existing logo. It can be a fun way to make it different and exceptional. I’ve seen events before where the guests proudly display badges or pins from previous years all with varying logos all tied back to the original one.

You event brand might end up being the anchor on which your guests will attach the memory of the event. I know I have some merchandise or even pens with the logos of events that bring me back and make me remember a good event.

An event can be defined as a unique occurrence of something happening, so might as well make your brand stand out in a fun or colorful way. Just tie it back and don’t lose site of your main brand if the event is related.

3. Make Sure To Brand Everything

Each event has it’s own goals and objectives, sometimes it’s just a gathering of colleagues. Or it can be the networking event of the year. Or maybe you’re launching your latest product to your most avid fans. One thing though that is common to most events is that they want to be remembered. Hardly any event is created for no reason or to be forgotten. Not if you’re here reading about event branding tips anyway. (Don’t create a event brand and logo for a mass redundancy for example.)

So if you are creating a brand or logo, then make sure you use it. Abundantly. Now you may have thought about some pens, t-shirts and tote bags. That’s a great start, but there are so many options available nowadays that you can use to enhance your event. Not necessarily even free stuff to give to people. For example how about making toppers for cupcakes. Simple but effective as your guests literally can devour your brand. Check out Cakeshop for an idea of what is possible.

Now that’s just one idea, think about things needed for the event day like paper cups or food box labels. For all of these options please do make sure you are using sustainable materials though! Branding your entire event is great but if you’re creating a ton of waste it can’t really be considered a success…

4. For Any Physical Branding, Think Digital

This event branding tip might sound a bit confusing as often when we think branding we think of physical products. This is still what I mean here, I’m just referring to screens and other digital mediums.

When you print out a logo to apply to a wall on your venue, then yes get something printed, chances are that it’s already a final design and you can’t easily stick a screen to a wall.

Where you should consider using digital branding is for any informational branding. For example have you created an agenda, or branded directional signage? Well all of this should be made digital.

Firstly this allows you to amend it on the day if there are any mistake or time changes. Secondly it can evolve throughout the day. You could show the morning agenda and then the afternoons. Thirdly it’s a more sustainable option as you are not creating printed waste, which is usually made of some form of PVC.

What is great about digital branding is that it can also be animated or play an entire video. If you look at marketing stats for video vs. static content you will see that the return on investment could be worth it.

Unfortunately the investment costs a bit more than a printed board, but it’s one of my favorite event branding tips!

5.Last Of Our Event Branding Tips: If You Do Print: Think Sustainable

Now, yes, I’ve mentioned this already throughout this article but it is one of the most important event branding tips when it comes to printing. If you do print try and make sure you use sustainable materials. Make it clear with your supplier from the get go that you want sustainable products. Then make sure they understand what you mean and your goals. I’ve seen a supplier deliver sustainable branded boards all wrapped in layers of bubble wrap…

Depending on the quantities of printed branding you are producing this can really have quite a big impact. Even on a small event it is important to keep in mind. If everyone does their small part then the whole will be impactful.

I won’t go on too much about the details, but check out our course on sustainable events if you care for our planet. It has plenty of methods to make your events better and greener.
